OUR STORY

ROCS (Rural Office of Community Services) was born from a simple but powerful belief: that every person - no matter where they live - deserves the opportunity to thrive.

Founded in 1981 with a deep commitment to the people of Charles Mix County, we started small, listening to our neighbors and stepping up where help was needed most. What began as local action soon grew into a wider mission -to walk alongside rural communities across South-Central and South-Eastern South Dakota, opening doors to opportunity, support, and lasting change.

Today, we proudly serve 28 counties, providing comprehensive programs and services that meet people where they are. Whether that means transportation to vital appointments, help navigating housing or food insecurity, or simply offering a voice when someone feels unheard.

At the heart of ROCS is community.

We believe in the power of connection, the strength of resilience, and the importance of standing together. Our work is driven by compassion, shaped by the voices of those we serve, and fueled by the belief that poverty is not permanent - hope is.
