ROCS Emergency Services Basic Needs Assistance Programs

Emergency Assistance

ROCS has funds available to help low-income individuals and families in emergency situations.  Assistance is provided one time per 12 month period. Assistance is available for disconnections on utility bills, utility deposit, help with a past due or first months rent and deposit, and emergency shelter situations. 
Referral Information is available from the office in Lake Andes regarding assistance with anything provided by ROCS as well as services provided by other agencies including Department of Social Services, local food pantries, domestic and elderly abuse situations.

Food Pantries

Food pantries in our service area are stocked mainly with donated goods. Contact your local food pantry to find out what is needed!

Donations are always appreciated and keep our food costs low.

School Supply Program
ROCS provides school supply vouchers to low income families to assist with the purchase of school supplies. Each school aged child (K-12) receives a $20 voucher to purchase school supplies at the vendor of their choice. For the 2008 School Supply Program, 2,060 children received a school supply voucher. Applications will be available beginning in July 2010. If you would like an application, please email Darci Bultje.

Garden Program
ROCS Garden Program provides gardening information, seeds, vouchers for tilling and vouchers for plants, sets and equipment. The Garden Program is designed to help low income individuals and families grow thier own food to supplement their food budget. Last year, garden program participants estimated that they saved over $16,000 in food costs by growing thier own food! Group gardens and family gardens are welcome to apply.
